The Marrakech to Fes desert tour combines adventure, history, nature, and unforgettable desert experiences into one incredible itinerary.
Our journey begins early in the morning from Marrakech. We travel through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, located at an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level.
This scenic mountain road offers spectacular panoramic views of valleys, Berber villages, and rugged mountain landscapes. Along the route, there are several opportunities to stop for photographs and admire the incredible scenery.
One of the major highlights of the tour is visiting the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous kasbahs.
This ancient fortified village is known for its traditional earthen clay architecture and fascinating history. It has served as the backdrop for many famous movies and TV productions including Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy.
Walking through the narrow alleys of the kasbah allows us to discover authentic Moroccan history and architecture while enjoying incredible desert views.
After lunch near Ait Ben Haddou, we continue toward Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” This city is home to famous film studios and historic kasbahs.
Ouarzazate is also an important gateway to the Sahara Desert and southern Morocco.
As the journey continues, we pass through the beautiful Valley of Roses, famous for its rose plantations and traditional Berber villages. During spring, the valley becomes especially stunning when roses bloom across the region.
We then continue along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs before arriving in the spectacular Dades Valley.
The Dades Valley is known for its dramatic rock formations, winding roads, and lush landscapes. Here, we spend the night in a traditional hotel or riad while enjoying authentic Moroccan cuisine and warm hospitality.
After breakfast, we continue toward the breathtaking Todra Gorges, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural attractions.
The towering canyon walls rise up to 300 meters high, creating a spectacular landscape popular with photographers, climbers, and nature lovers. A walk through the gorge offers an unforgettable experience surrounded by dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear river water.
As we continue southward, the scenery gradually changes into desert landscapes. Passing through Berber villages and palm groves, we finally reach Merzouga, home to the magnificent dunes of Erg Chebbi.
The golden sand dunes of Merzouga are among the most iconic landscapes in Morocco and can reach heights of over 150 meters.
In the late afternoon, we begin one of the most unforgettable experiences of the tour: a camel trek across the Sahara Desert.
Riding camels through the golden dunes during sunset creates magical memories that last forever. The peaceful silence of the desert combined with the changing colors of the sand offers an extraordinary atmosphere.
After the camel ride, we arrive at our desert camp located in the heart of the dunes.

The valley provides incredible panoramic viewpoints and showcases the natural beauty of southern Morocco.
We continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in Midelt, a peaceful town known for its apple orchards and mountain scenery.
Midelt offers a refreshing contrast to the desert landscapes experienced earlier in the journey.
One of the unique experiences on this route is visiting the cedar forests near Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaque monkeys.
